Question: Clarity vs color for diamond rings?
(Posted by: Kimbulee C on 2010-08-30 13:35:42)
What is your preference when it comes to diamond rings? my mom and i have been looking and she cant understand that these two factors really matter and i know that diamonds come with different options for color and clarity. We& #039;re looking for a price range within 10, 000 to 12, 500 for a 2 carat diamond. with this budget and size, which would matter more for the diamond to appear better? (prices based on Shane Co in Colorado, who only sell well cut diamonds and are GIA certified) |

Fuck you must be rich i would say they are both important. you shouldn 't waste that much money buying new.. you could get a natural diamond ring second hand for a lot cheaper and the quality would be the same |

Both are very important even though I would give color a little advantage, because if its not a good color you might be able to tell the color difference. However Clarity you will not be able to see with the naked eye on a reasonable clarity. I personally think you can get much better diamonds online at one of the largest and trusted retailers such as diamondsonweb.com , they are much better priced and they have amazing GIA diamonds. Dont forget that the setting also makes a big difference. |

They are both very important. I would sacrifice the 2 carat (you can get a big cost cut if you get 1.98 Carat and no one will be able to tell the .02 carat size difference) and get better color AND clarity. You can learn more about their importance at Gia4Cs.gia.edu. It is a pretty cool site. Also has the jeweler just guaranteed they are GIA? Insist on seeing the GIA report for the diamonds. The report is essential on comparing diamonds. It is really the only way to compare apples to apples. My fiancé and I were able to shop around using GIA reports to compare diamonds for my wedding band and it made the process much simpler! |

I 've also heard that they are both important, and I 've also heard that "Cut is king ". So obviously different people have different opinions - and that includes jewelers. I agree with another commenter that you should sacrifice a little size and get a diamond with high color, cut and clarity. I recently saw a 2-carat ring with lower grades on cut, color, and clarity right next to a 1-carat ring with high grades on all 3 of the other Cs (this happened when looking at two girlfriends ' new e-rings), and the 1-carat totally outshone the 2 carat. That said, you already have the most important part right, which is the GIA grading report - at least that way you know for sure that you know exactly what you 're getting. |
