Would it be risky to leave my diamond ring with a jeweler who noticed the setting/prongs are weak?

Question: Would it be risky to leave my diamond ring with a jeweler who noticed the setting/prongs are weak?

The ring is 20 years old so I am assuming he could be correct. He noticed it when I brought some watches in to be fixed. I just have this fear of some dishonest person putting a cubic zerconia in its place or something like that. Silly thought?

This answer is based on the fact that your ring is 20 years old and is of great sentimental value. I agree, do not leave your ring with the jeweler. If the ring is 20 years old then i would assume that the prongs do need to be adjusted. I suggest that you have it adjusted on the spot under your supervision. I have been in the business for over 10 years and know that any honest jeweler will not have a problem with this. Not all jewelry stores have a diamond setter/ jeweler on premises so you will have to call most of your local jewelry stores and find out who has a setter on the premises, most have a setter/ jewelry on premises at least 1 day a week. Speak with the jewelry directly and see what he says about the ring. If he says it needs work tell him you would like to be present while its done and tell him that you don 't mind paying a little bit extra to watch. If he doesn 't agree just move on to the next HONEST jeweler. Adjusting the prongs will take a good jeweler no more then 15-20 min. I hope this helps 212diamondcity.com please visit 212diamondcity.com for excellent gold and diamond jewelry at affordable prices. I wouldn 't trust it. especially if the jeweler noticed it right away. don 't risk it. especially if the ring is 20 years old, it sounds quite special if it 's a diamond ring that old that you still wear. don 't leave it with them.
