Isn't there a way to stop the blood diamond tradition by using older diamond rings? why not reset the stones?

I can& #039;t seem to find any resources for opinions on this. I need them for a research paper.

The blood diamond "tradition " has been stopped. Blood diamonds were actually a tiny percentage of the diamonds that came into the US. However, due to the Kimberly Process these diamonds have been banned. Most people who own older diamond jewelry prefer to keep their jewelry intact due to the popularity of estate and antique jewelry, as well as sentimental value. In fact, there are diamond cutters who are cutting diamonds in these older cuts due to the high demand of antique style jewelry. Info about the Kimberly Process here... kimberleyprocess.com/

That 's already been done. Older diamond rings are valuable the way they are, not a lot of diamonds are available for re-setting. There is quite a difference in cut between new and old diamonds. You will never get the super sparkle people want these days out of an older diamond. The really old diamonds were cut to look good in candle light, not in electric light. I prefer the older diamonds, but lots of people would not be interested in buying second hand diamonds.
