Question: Why do people buy expensive jewelry, cough diamond rings?
(Posted by: meloncholy canteloupe on 2010-01-18 23:00:45)
If a cubic zirc. looks like the same thing, why does it matter? The diamond ring has a been a recent and commercialized thing. Why do newlyweds have to spend tons on a little ring if they could use that money for other things, like furniture or neccesities? Why do we have to shovel out the cash for marriage if it is not supposed to be based on the material, but on love and commitment. |

The De Beers Company, the largest distributor of diamonds in the world, has persuaded us that a marriage just isn 't the same without that big piece of diamond jewelry on a woman 's left hand. But you can buy beautiful inexpensive wedding rings at Amazon.com. amazon.com/ gp/ redirect.html?ie= UTF8 &location= http%3A%2F%2Famazon.com%2Fs%3Fie%3DUTF8%26redirect%3Dtrue%26ref_%3Dsr%255Fnr%255Fp%255F36%255F0%26keywords%3Ddiamond%2520rings%26bbn%3D3367581%26qid%3D1263915985%26rnid%3D386563011%26rh%3Dk%253Adiamond%2520rings%252Cn%253A3367581%252Cp%255F36%253A1253533011 &tag= digitsy-marina-20 &linkCode= ur2 &camp= 1789 &creative= 390957 |

Ok, the point is - normal people buy jewelry because they can afford it. i mean u have a house, a car, u have money to buy food and other crap and then u have some money left still and u do not know what to do with it - then u buy jewelry. and u buy jewelry equal to amount of money u have - u re beyond rich u buy expensive diamonds best quality. u re just well off - u buy either zirconium or cheap, tiny bits of diamonds u can not see through hubble telescope. but those people who have no money to buy food buying expensive diamonds re plain stupid and they just want to appear smth they re not. i still do not see the point - if u have no money to buy food what difference does it make that others think u re rich? u still live in a dumpster but wear expensive rings. stupid. |

I think that it depends on the relationship, as a woman of marrying age, i wouldnt mind just having a band or a CZ ring. I wouldnt like if he said it was a diamond if it wasnt though, i mean, if he was just being cheap and had the money but bought cz for that reason, id be slightly offended but if it was a case of money was just tight...i think its an acceptable alternative. |

Its a symbol? to show love and affection? whenever a girl looks at the dimond on her hand she thinks shes worth a million! she remembers the love her and her husband has. its not the same, if you bought a couch, every time you sit on a couch do you think "WE HAVE SUCH A GOOD RELATIONSHIP!!! " no. you think "jeez, this couch is getting old. lets get a new one " |

I don 't mind cubic zirc, but i guess a real diamond symbolizes forever .cause diamonds are forever. I would rather have a cubic zirc. but then again it would be nice to know that he is willing to spend that much on me. On the other hand i would feel guilty. lol! |

I think it has more to do with the status the real thing brings, then anything else, really. But even when buying a real diamond ring, you can consider your option, so you can keep the cost lower. Different settings, different sizes, those are all things that can help keep the cost affordable, while still having a real diamond ring. |
