There is a great diamond forum which will give you a good idea of what mistakes to avoid AND what to look for when buying a diamond. It’s called, pricescope.com There are many other articles as well on Google. Below I have linked a couple of very informative articles which should at least help you go in the right direction. There are many tips I think you should keep in mind. Perhaps the most important thing he can do is define his budget. How much does your brother want to spend? This question falls right at that point where money decisions meet psychology and emotion. It’s often said that a man should spend twice his monthly salary on a ring, but the reality is that he should spend 4-5 times as much if he 's serious and wants to please his future lady of the house. |

Account for her general styles in jewelry and lifestyle so you pick something that suits her personality and tastes. People tend to shop for the "biggest, " or largest carat weight stone, which is often a mistake. It 's the cut, or make, that has the biggest impact on the beauty of a diamond. That is what will account for the brilliance and sparkle of the ring. * It’s a good idea to pick out a couple of shapes so you have something to compare. Try to pick no more than three shapes. Beyond that, you brain starts to go into a state of confusion. * Regarding cut, there are two considerations: The shape of the cut and the make (the quality of workmanship in creating the shape). * The make is the biggest factor in the beauty of the diamond. If you want perfection in your diamonds, you want the ideal cut. If your goal is beauty and high quality, select a very good or excellent make. If the size of the diamond is at the top of your list of selection criteria, you’ll want to select a good make. * Generally, you will want to avoid fair to poor make, because the brilliance is usually poor. When she looks at the ring in the light you want her to see fire and brilliance. Only work with jewelers who offer a money back guarantee. If you 're dropping a lot of money on the ring, get an independent appraisal (not from a jeweler) to insure it 's worth what you paid. Only buy certified, conflict free diamonds. It 's an emotional decision so I always recommend deciding what you want and then wait a couple of days to be sure you will be happy with your decision. Good luck! Look for 4 things : Carats- the size of the diamond Cut - When cut properly, the diamond will sparkle more. Clarity - How clear is the stone? Clarity ranges from flawless (perfect) to I Color: Diamond colors generally range from D - X for white and yellow diamonds. D is the whitest. The 4C rule is the most important, and the most important is the CARAT and second important is the COLOR. If you are getting a good quality ring also ask for a international certificate so that you can be sure about the quality of the diamond. Simple. Go online, do your research into the 4Cs of diamonds. Educate yourselves. The have a think about the sort of ring she 'd prefer. Diamond shape and metal. Look at the sort of jewellery she currently wears - this will give you a clue. Set your budget and stick to it! Hope this helps. |
