Question: Black diamond engagement ring?
(Posted by: on 2009-12-28 01:35:09)
My boyfriend and I are looking at an engagement ring that is 18K white gold with a 2.1 carat black diamond (clarity - opaque - I am told this is the only grading that black diamonds have as you cannot see through them) and 48 small white diamonds that are 0.01 carat each, making the ring total 2.58 carats. We don& #039;t have much of a clue about making such a big purchase, but the best price we can get for this ring is $5900. Can somebody who has an idea please tell me if this is reasonable? |

I would not purchase that ring unless you like being ripped off. For example, you can purchase a 2.50 carat solitare from Amazon for $679 here... amazon.com/ 2-50ct-Solitaire-Black-Diamond-Engagement/ dp/ B001U2EJWM/ ref= pd_sbs_jw_8 And there is a company here that is selling a 2 carat black diamond for $100...alphaimports.com/ 2-carats-black-diamond-7-mm-opaque-clarity-p-16077.html There are also quite a number of other black diamond rings on Amazon for much, much less without breaking your wallet and giving sales people a 500% commission profit. (or more) An 18k white gold setting you should be able to get from a reputable jeweler for about $300 (more or less depending on the weight of the ring) and 48 points of melee ( rhymes with jelly- a term we use for small accent diamonds ) for less than $500, more for higher quality diamonds. For $5900 you should be able to get a nice clarity 1.25ct near colorless diamond that will hold it 's value better than that nearly valueless piece of faceted carbon. |

Until recently the most prized type of diamond was a high quality white diamond, however colored diamonds are becoming increasingly popular and the black diamond is a dramatic alternative to the conventional white diamond. When combined with white diamonds, black diamonds make a breathtaking option. Black diamonds share many of the positive qualities of a clear white diamond. They are extremely hard stones, which makes diamonds an excellent choice for an engagement ring as there is little danger of the diamond chipping, becoming discolored, or generally showing wear. A black diamond also has some of the inner fire that is found in clear white diamonds. It may sound strange, but even very small black diamonds will reflect the light and these sparkle and shine when light hits the facets. Alternate you black diamond to Three Stone Engagement Ring. For example, there are many colored gemstones that have historical associations to love. Red stones symbolize the heart, and thus, passion and a zest for life. With red, one instantly thinks of ruby, but the same symbolism can be conveyed very inexpensively with red garnet, or with a little larger budget, red tourmaline, or for a little more, red spinel. All natural gemstones, and all beautiful. We can find similar choices for green (which symbolizes faithfulness and continuity) where choices include not only emerald, but green garnet or green tourmaline; for blue (which symbolizes spirituality and purity) in addition to sapphire we have blue spinel, iolite, and blue tourmaline. You might also combine whatever stone you choose with a small diamond on each side, thereby completing the ring with the symbolism of diamond, which, because of its unrivaled hardness was believed to be indestructible. And lets not forget the gem that has been associated with love and with the wedding itself longer than all others, the pearl; one might seek a natural pearl in an antique or heirloom piece. There is also a tradition of using a birthstone in the ring--hers or his--something connected to the couple in a very personal way, perhaps also combined with diamonds and their symbolism. So whatever the budget, whatever the message, there are beautiful, rare, symbolic and precious choices. Just as you 've found the "real thing " in your bride-to-be, go for the real thing in the ring you select. For further info, please read this article: |
