Question: What are the best stores to buy a solitaire diamond engagement ring?

I want to get a good deal from a store that I can walk into (so not online). What are the best stores for the money?

I guess if you 're looking for like a "name brand " place, helzberg 's has a really nice cut of diamond, i forget what it 's called, but it 's their specialty cut but i would do a little more research that just a store you can walk into. buying a diamond is intense

Maybe Kay 's Jewelers I have been their once it looked pretty cheap and their are stores in malls.

You aren 't likely to get a "good deal " from any name brand jewelry store. Jewelry has enormous mark-ups. Your best bet would be to go to someone in the jewelry district (I know there is one in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York) who primarily sells wholesale. If that isn 't possible, get educated on the 4 c 's of diamond grading - color, cut, clarity and carat. Decide what you want in these areas and then look around. Go to several stores and see what they show you. Just don 't fall for a big carat weight with unacceptable color or clarity. It is a lot of work, but you will be spending a lot of money.
